The Netherlands have secured a Pot 1 seeding for the Euro 2028 qualifying draw. The achievement follows an unbeaten run of four Nations League matches under head coach Xavi Hernández.
The team leads Nations League Group A2 with eight points from two wins over Serbia and draws against Germany and Greece. The latest victory came last Saturday in Eindhoven, a 2-1 win. Teun Koopmeiners opened the scoring in the 31st minute, but Mihajlo Cvetković equalised four minutes later. The decisive goal was scored by Joshua Zirkzee in the 72nd minute, assisted by Tijjani Reijnders.
Denzel Dumfries played the full match and was involved in the play leading to the winning goal. "The defender played the entire match and contributed to the play that led to the winning goal," said Dumfries. It was his fourth consecutive start for the national team.
Nations League rules dictate that the top three teams in each Division A group qualify for Pot 1 in the Euro qualifying draw. The Netherlands cannot finish lower than third in Group A2, making the status official. France, England, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece have also secured this protected position.
The draw will be held in December. The Dutch are now unbeaten in their last five matches, with a record of WDWDD. Their next fixture is at home to Greece on 13 November, a key match for Nations League quarter-final hopes. A trip to Germany follows three days later. The current squad and full fixtures schedule are available on this site.
