The Netherlands national football team plays its second World Cup match in the NRG Stadium in the Texan city of Houston against Sweden. Thousands of Dutch fans and other football fans joined the Oranjemars march to the stadium. The march was led by the well-known orange double-decker bus. Edwin van der Sar and Wesley Sneijder were present at the march. Minister of Sports Mirjam Sterk was also there. The stadium has air conditioning, but the KNVB had issued a heat warning for the march. At around 09.00, it was already around 30 degrees in Houston. Local channel Fox26 reported live on the march and spoke to fans beforehand. Football club Houston Dynamo FC had called on its own fans to join the fanwalk. King Willem-Alexander, Queen Máxima, and Princess Ariane were present in the stadium to cheer on the Netherlands. It is tradition that Oranje supporters do a fanwalk before matches at major tournaments. At the first World Cup match of Oranje, last week in Dallas, many non-Dutch fans also joined in. It seemed to be the case in Houston as well. The fanwalk is an important part of the Oranje tradition. The fans had gathered early in the morning at another stadium. They started their four-kilometer march at 08.45. The KNVB reports that, based on local authorities, around 15,000 people joined in, roughly the same number as at the first World Cup match in Dallas.
