Netherlands: No talks between Louis van Gaal and KNVB Truus van Gaal, the wife of former Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal, has dismissed rumors about a possible return of her husband to the national team. In an interview with RTL Boulevard, she made it clear that there are currently no talks between Van Gaal and the KNVB. 'Louis has said that the KNVB can always contact him, but that's all. He is now enjoying his time on the golf course,' said Truus. ## What happened? Earlier on Monday, De Telegraaf reported that Van Gaal was open to a return as national coach. The 74-year-old was said to have indicated that he is 'fitter than ever.' Truus van Gaal, however, states that these reports have been taken out of context. 'It's a misunderstanding. Louis only said that he is available if the KNVB needs him,' she explained. ## Why it matters for Netherlands The KNVB is currently looking for a new national coach. Michael Reiziger seems to be the favorite, but Ruud van Nistelrooij is also mentioned as a serious candidate. Netherlands is currently first in the World Cup with 7 points from 3 games (2W-1D-0L). Their last result was a 1-1 draw against Morocco on June 30, 2026. ## What comes next? The KNVB has confirmed that they are busy with the search for a new coach. Reiziger, the current coach of Jong Oranje, has already had lengthy talks with Nigel de Jong and Clarence Seedorf. 'We are not done with our evaluation yet,' said a KNVB spokesperson. Netherlands will play their next match on September 24, 2026, against Germany. Frenkie de Jong and Xavi Simons are currently sidelined.
