The Netherlands national football team is about to participate in the World Cup. The tournament starts on June 11 and 48 countries are participating. In addition to the extra countries participating, several new rules will also be introduced during this World Cup. The Italian FIFA referee boss Pierluigi Collina has announced several new rules that will come into effect on July 1. However, the rules will already be applied during the upcoming World Cup. The most notable change is that the video referee will have more powers. The VAR can intervene during the World Cup when a corner kick is wrongly awarded. Also, in the event of a wrongly given second yellow card, which leads to a red card, the VAR can intervene. Other changes include that players who cover their mouth with their hand or shirt to shout something to an opponent can receive a red card. The referee boss also wants to put an end to long substitutions and slow game restarts. Therefore, players must leave the field within ten seconds of a substitution. For a goal kick or throw-in, players have five seconds. Otherwise, a corner kick will be awarded to the opponent or the throw-in will go to the opponent. During the World Cup, the weather can vary greatly per playing city. In northern cities in Canada and parts of the US, it is often pleasant with temperatures around 20 to 25 degrees. In warmer areas, such as in Mexico and the southern US, the temperature can rise to 30 degrees or more. Collina therefore announced that during the 104 matches at the World Cup, a three-minute break will be held halfway through each half so that players can recover. But the Dutch players must also adapt to the new rules. They must be aware that the VAR has more powers and that they must substitute quickly. So it is important that the Dutch players are well prepared for the World Cup. The Dutch national coach Louis van Gaal will have to prepare his team for the new rules and the extra breaks. He will have to ensure that his players know what is expected of them and that they follow the rules. The Dutch players will also have to get used to the heat in some playing cities. They will have to ensure that they drink enough water and protect themselves well from the sun. The World Cup starts on June 11 and it will be an exciting tournament for the Dutch players.
