Jeremie Frimpong is ruled out for the Netherlands' upcoming international fixtures. The 25-year-old right-back suffered a fresh hamstring injury during Liverpool's Premier League match against Brentford on Saturday.

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola confirmed the setback. "Jeremie has clearly suffered a new muscle injury," said the coach. "It happened in the second or third minute he was playing. It's difficult to predict; we have to wait until he recovers." Frimpong was substituted after just six minutes and will also miss his club's Champions League match against Villarreal.

For national team head coach Xavi Hernández, the news arrives at a critical juncture. The Netherlands are joint-top of Nations League Group 2 with Greece, both on eight points and a +2 goal difference. The upcoming matches will decide who advances to the finals. Xavi's side first host Greece at the Johan Cruijff ArenA on 13 November, followed by an away trip to face Germany in Berlin three days later.

Injury woes for Frimpong

The injury is a major blow for Frimpong, who moved from Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool for around €35 million in May 2025. In his first season at the English club, he has already missed approximately 25 matches for club and country due to hamstring and thigh issues. Despite this, he played 43 official games for Liverpool, scoring three goals and providing four assists. He was also part of Ronald Koeman's 2026 World Cup squad.

Oranje's form

The absence of Frimpong forces a defensive reshuffle for the Netherlands. The team is unbeaten in its last four matches, with a sequence of two wins and two draws. The most recent victory was a 2-1 win over Serbia on 4 October, with goals from Teun Koopmeiners and Joshua Zirkzee. Four days earlier, the Dutch came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 in Greece, thanks to strikes from captain Virgil van Dijk and Tijjani Reijnders.

The match against Greece on 13 November is the next fixture for the Netherlands national team.
